The Sharp GP2Y0A21 IR Infrared Distance Sensor is an analogue proximity sensor with a range of 10-80cm. The GP2Y0A21 is a distance-measuring sensor unit composed of a position-sensitive detector (PSD), an infrared emitting diode (IRED), and a signal processing circuit. This device outputs the voltage corresponding to the detection distance. So this sensor can also be used as a proximity sensor. It provides accurate distance measurement (up to 80cm).
Factors such as the reflectivity of the object, the environmental temperature, and the operating duration are not affected easily by distance detection because the sensor triangulates the emitted signal. This sensor package makes it easy to connect to your microcontroller board or single-board computer! The 3 pins correspond to power (VCC, GND), and an analogue voltage signal proportional to the distance to an object (if present).
